KNCV Ethiopia
KNCV Ethiopia is a local nonprofit organization established in Ethiopia and registered and accorded legal personality with registry number 7336 as a local organization in accordance with the civil society organization proclamation No 1113/2019. KNCV Ethiopia is dedicated to fight and end human suffering from TB and other related diseases in Ethiopia and support the country toward achieving the global END TB strategy. KNCV Ethiopia works toward contributing to the reduction of TB and related diseases in the country through implementation projects, research, and evidence generation.
KNCV Ethiopia will improve childhood TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention by scaling up evidence-based and high-impact interventions using an integrated TB service delivery model to identify undiagnosed children and achieve better TB outcomes. The goal of this SAS-P funded OptCARE project to optimize access to innovative TB prevention and treatment services for children and their families in six remote hard-to-reach zones of Ethiopia. KNCV Ethiopia will address the access and quality gaps in TB diagnosis and treatment through an integrated approach that will bring innovative healthcare solutions to remote rural areas.
The project will be implemented in south Omo &Ari (South Ethiopia regional state), Borena Zone (Oromia regional states), Liben Zone (Somali regional state), Dawro & Konta zones (Southwest Ethiopia regional state) of Ethiopia.
KNCV Ethiopia is looking for Laboratory advisor who will support the OptCARE project laboratory and diagnostic activity.
The Laboratory advisor will report to the Executive Director/project Manager, and he/she will work in close coordination with the team at central office and the zonal Coordinators stated in the implementation regions/zones of the project.
The laboratory advisor will:
· Support implementation of the OptCARE project and make sure that all laboratory related activities are implemented and managed per the standard;
· lead the development of training material for the Laboratory-related activities to be provided throughout the project.
· Develop new or customize already existing SOPs and job aids that are to be used at the lab level throughout the project period and beyond.
· Work on capacity building of the health professionals especially the Laboratory professionals of the selected health facilities
· Facilitate targeted supervision to study health facilities that require focused technical support such as mentoring, monitoring and supervision;
· Liaise with the laboratory professionals and ensure the activities are taking place according to the project plan.
· Support the overall specimen transport and results feedback system, communication and strengthening of the networks of the GeneXpert sites working well ;
Provide technical assistance to the health facilities during supportive supervision and review meetings;
· Ensure that records are maintained at facility level and reported accordingly
· Prepare site-specific project progress reports to KNCV Ethiopia central office on a pre-defined basis;
· Assist the site study coordinators to strengthen and coordinate an effective referral system of TB patients or samples;
· Develop close working relationships with the study health facilities and other stakeholders that have responsibility for eligible participants identification, sample collection, data recording, sample referral and sample processing;
· Facilitate sample transportation and improve communication of test results between health facility and GeneXpert site;
· Work with central KNCV Ethiopia staff to effectively address operational challenges such as training preparation, supply needs, and the timely cascade of the supportive supervision and review meetings;
· Regularly monitor the data collection and study implementation, and prepare report;
· Provide technical support to zonal coordinators on the over all laboratory and diagnositc activities ;
· Provide insightful views on challenges faced by the Laboratory unit, provide mitigation plans.
· Represent the project in different laboratory and diagnostic related platforms and provide the necessary update.
· Liaise with the personnel responsible from NTLLP, RHB, zonal office, facilities and other stakeholders to facilitate project implementation.
· Perform other duties appropriate to the position as required and as assigned by the project
What does KNCV Ethiopia offer?
· A full-time contract for one year with the intention to extend the contract.
· The salary is dependent upon education, relevant working experience and organizational scale.
· B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science and Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.
· Minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience including experience on working in TB laboratory (including TB culture lab ,Xpert MTB/RIF,WRD);
Knowledge/Experience/ Behavioral competencies and skills
· Sound knowledge of the basic principles and advanced Mulucular Test for TB
· Sound knowledge of the cutting-edge diagnostic tools of TB in general and TB in children adolescent in particular used globally and in Ethiopia ?
· Sound skills of standard sample collection, handling and processing;
· Supervisory, training, management and monitoring skills of lab technician
· In-depth knowledge of TB from programmatic and diagnostic perspectives based on local NTP and WHO policies
· Sound knowledge of basic principles and the challenges associated with laboratory and diagnostic service of TB in childre and Adolescent
· Experience in working with the zonal or regional TB program and building the capacity of of laboratory experts TB diagnostics
· Experience and knowlesge in project managment , work plan and budget management ia an added advanage
· Willing to frequently travel to the project site
· Experience working in non-Governmental organizations is desirable
· Experience with laboratory information systems
· Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload;
· Willingness to travel frequently to the regional/ zonal project sites.
· Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and partners;
· Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload
· Excellent oral and writing skills in English.
· Excellent communication- and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with culturally diverse partners
· Experience with research and studies in relevant childhood TB and related field;
· Familiar to work with standard biosafety guidelines, keeping the general infection control precautions;
· Computer literacy; competency with Microsoft Office, excel, internet and e-mail systems,
· Fluency in written and spoken English is required;
· Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload;
