Job Description
The Accounting and Finance Officer is responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with Ethiopian financial regulations. This role involves preparing financial statements, handling tax filings, overseeing payroll, and supporting budgeting and financial planning activities. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to support sound financial decision-making.
Prepare, review, and post journal entries in the accounting system.
Manage the general ledger and ensure timely month-end and year-end closings.
Prepare accurate financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
Maintain up-to-date financial records in compliance with Ethiopian financial regulations and standards.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
Collaborate with the Finance Manager to develop management reports and financial analyses.
Provide timely and relevant financial data to support decision-making across departments.
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
Process supplier invoices, payment vouchers, and ensure proper reconciliation.
Manage accounts receivable and collections, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
Conduct regular reconciliations of vendor and customer accounts.
Prepare and file tax returns, including VAT, withholding tax, income tax, and pension contributions, in line with applicable laws.
Ensure timely payment of tax obligations and stay updated on tax legislation.
Maintain organized tax records for audits and statutory reporting.
Liaise with ERCA and other regulatory bodies as needed.
Monitor cash flow and banking transactions to ensure proper use of funds and liquidity.
Manage payroll preparation, including salary disbursements, statutory deductions, and compliance with employment tax laws.
Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and ensuring transparency.
Implement and enforce internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
Identify financial risks and areas for process improvement, and recommend effective solutions.
Collaborate with internal teams to track expenses, revenues, and overall financial performance.
Communicate with external stakeholders, including vendors, banks, and government entities.
Contribute to the development and refinement of financial policies aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 4-5 years of professional experience in accounting or financial management roles.(preferably in transportation or tech-based services).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Peachtree).
Optional Preferred additional Qualifications:
Education/Training: Degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; candidates with additional training or relevant experience in Computer Science or Information Technology are strongly encouraged to apply.
Tech Exposure (Optional but Preferred): Exposure to IT systems, financial software, or computer science concepts is a plus especially in data analysis, automation, or ERP systems.
