Job Description

General Managers are responsible for setting the objectives of the business unit of a company, creating a plan for the operations, and facilitating the achievement of the objectives and implementation of the plan together with employees of the segment and stakeholders

Job Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree is generally the minimum requirement, and many General Managers hold advanced degrees like an MBA. Relevant fields include: Business Administration, Food Science, Engineering (especially Food technology or Chemical Engineering), Manufacturing, Finance or in a related field of study

  • Experience: Proven track record in management, ideally within the food manufacturing industry, is essential. This typically involves at least 5 years of experience in roles like plant management, operations management, or maintenance/engineering management.

Required Skills:

The General Manager needs a diverse skillset:

  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage performance, and drive results. 

  • Organizational: Strong ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects. 

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with staff, suppliers, and clients. 

  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of budgeting, financial performance, and cost management. 

  • Problem-solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently. 

  • Industry Knowledge: A thorough understanding of food production processes, quality control, and safety standards. 

Certifications:

While not mandatory, certifications are a plus.

  • Lean Manufacturing: Focuses on efficiency and waste reduction. 

  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points): Ensures food safety throughout the production process. 

  • GMP (Good Manufactureing Process): a set of procedures designed to ensure food products are safe, wholesome, and consistently produced. 

  • FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act): Focuses on preventing food safety issues. 

Other Desirable Qualities:

  • Customer service orientation: Focusing on meeting customer needs and expectations. 

  • Detail-oriented: Paying attention to detail in all aspects of the operation. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment: Adapting to changes and challenges. 

  • Proficiency in relevant software: Such as Peachtree and Microsoft Office.
